Meet the Artist
I have always loved to create. It’s the one thing which I’ve always had in common with my family, and which set me apart from my peers. No matter what, my family had always encouraged me in the arts. Back in 2013 when I told my mom I wanted to take my art seriously she took me to Hobby Lobby and bought me my first set of oil paint and all the supplies I would need to get started. I was 10 years old at that time and I was dead set on being a landscape artist. I loved the outdoors, and nature had always felt safer to me than real life
By that age I had already experienced many unspeakable traumas. I didn't dare speak to anyone about them out of fear of retaliation, or accusations of an over active imagination. Little did I know It would get much worse before it got better.
I was emotionally and physically isolated for most of my life, especially during the global pandemic, and for a long time after. I survived three close suicide attempts, a traumatic car accident, poverty to the point of starvation, and the loss of over half of my family.
I have hit lows in my life that most people can't even begin to imagine surviving; yet against all odds, I’m still standing. I’m now happily married and on a steady path towards healing.
My art has been my voice through it all. No matter what life threw at me I could rely on my art to be my voice when i had no words. At some point in time, I switched from the safe feeling landscapes to the deeper, more vague sceneries I place my portraits in today. From the depths of caves, to misty backdrops, and the night sky. In this style and subject matter I found a sense of ease and comfort even when expressing some of my more deep and difficult emotions.
Artistry That Inspires and Connects
My art explores the vast range of human emotion that words can scarcely describe. I often explore the feelings of loss, grief, and pain in depth; however, I have also expressed the other side to these emotions such as wonder, euphoria, and comfort. I often work in mixed media to give my paintings a sense of depth and contrast, using different mediums as a way to separate the subject from the background, or to add small details into the lighting.
Every emotion we experience as humans is almost never surface level. That's why having so much depth in my work is important. I want people who view my art to connect it with something they have felt in their lifetime and know that they aren't alone in that experience. That no matter what point they are at in their journey through life and/or healing, there is someone who understands.
